Chasin’ Turkeys Earn First Win Behind Anderson Hat Trick and Osipenko’s Stellar Performance

The Chasin’ Turkeys secured their first victory of the HPH Top Prospects League season on Monday night, defeating IceLine in a game that featured high-end talent, momentum swings, and standout individual performances on both sides.

Leading the charge for the Turkeys was forward Thomas Anderson, who recorded a hat trick in a breakout offensive performance. Anderson, who suited up for the Ottawa Valley Titans U16 AAA program last season and was recently selected by the Smiths Falls Bears, is typically recognized as a dependable two-way center who excels in defensive situations and penalty-killing responsibilities. While his defensive reliability has long been one of his strengths, Monday’s performance showcased another side of his game as he found the back of the net three times and helped power the Turkeys’ attack.

Behind Anderson’s offensive outburst stood goaltender Kale Osipenko, who delivered one of the strongest performances of the young season. The former Sarnia Sting netminder and Team Canada East U19 representative turned aside 33 of 35 shots, making several key saves as IceLine mounted a push in the second half. Osipenko’s calm presence and ability to make difficult saves at critical moments allowed the Turkeys to maintain control despite sustained pressure.

The Turkeys also received valuable offensive contributions from Will Gray and Hunter Robitaille, who each recorded three-point performances in a balanced team effort that saw production throughout the lineup.

While the final score favored the Turkeys, IceLine showed tremendous resilience after a difficult opening half. The squad managed just seven shots through the opening portion of the game while surrendering six goals on only 18 shots against. Rather than folding, IceLine responded with an impressive surge in the second half, generating 28 shots and controlling large stretches of play.

Much of that push was driven by Spencer Bowes, who continued to demonstrate why he is one of the most highly regarded players in the event. Bowes, who played for the Ottawa 67’s in the OHL this past season and currently sits 75th on NHL Central Scouting’s rankings, recorded a goal and an assist against Osipenko. Generating offense against a goaltender of Osipenko’s caliber is no easy task, but Bowes showcased the skill, vision, and creativity that have made him a player to watch.

Ramsey Stretch also found the scoresheet for IceLine. The offensively gifted Richmond Royals Jr. B forward capitalized on his opportunity and contributed a goal as part of the team’s second-half resurgence.

On the back end, defensemen David Buchman and Max Poirier were among IceLine’s most consistent performers. Buchman, fresh off his rookie season with the Brantford Bulldogs of the OHL, displayed poise and maturity while helping stabilize the defensive zone. Poirier, who played for the Ottawa Valley Titans U16 AAA program this past season, also logged important minutes and contributed to IceLine’s improved play as the game progressed.

Goaltender Jackson Howell deserves significant credit for helping IceLine remain competitive despite the early deficit. After a challenging opening half, Howell settled in and made several difficult saves that allowed his team to build momentum and mount their comeback attempt.

Although the Turkeys ultimately secured the win, both teams showcased the depth of talent that continues to make the HPH Top Prospects League a premier summer development environment. The Turkeys leave with their first victory of the season, while IceLine demonstrated the resilience and compete level that will make them a difficult opponent moving forward.
