BIG Continues Strong Run with 3-1 Victory Over Chasin’ Turkeys

The Billiard Insurance Group continued to build momentum Monday night at the Carleton Place Arena, earning a convincing 3-1 victory over the Chasin’ Turkeys and extending their unbeaten streak to three games.

After securing a win in their previous outing and battling to a tie before that, BIG has quietly become one of the hottest teams in the HPH Top Prospects League. Their latest performance showcased a balanced attack, strong defensive structure, and outstanding goaltending—three ingredients that have become a consistent theme during their recent success.

Leading the way offensively was forward Alex McLean, who turned in one of the league’s best individual performances of the season. McLean recorded two goals and one assist, factoring in all three BIG goals and proving to be a constant threat whenever he was on the ice.

BIG opened the scoring early when Reid Harper found the back of the net off a setup from McLean, giving his club an early 1-0 advantage. Just minutes later, McLean doubled the lead with a goal of his own after receiving a feed from Graydon Mears.

The second period saw BIG continue to dictate play. McLean struck again midway through the frame, extending the lead to 3-0 and giving his team valuable breathing room heading into the final stretch.

Despite the scoreline, the Chasin’ Turkeys were far from out of the game. The Turkeys generated an impressive 33 shots on goal and consistently pushed the pace offensively throughout the evening. Their persistence was eventually rewarded late in the second period when Hunter Robitaille beat Marcus Smolcic to cut the deficit to two.

However, that would be as close as the Turkeys would get.

Smolcic was outstanding between the pipes for BIG, turning aside 32 of 33 shots and delivering several key saves whenever momentum threatened to swing. His calm presence allowed BIG to protect their lead and close out another important victory.

At the other end, Kale Osipenko once again gave the Turkeys a chance to compete, stopping 26 shots and making a number of difficult saves against a dangerous BIG attack.

One area that proved costly for the Turkeys was discipline. Cole McLelland was assessed two penalties during the game, and while BIG was unable to capitalize on the scoresheet, the penalties interrupted the Turkeys’ rhythm and limited opportunities to generate sustained momentum.

For BIG, the win continues a stretch of strong hockey that has quickly turned heads around the league. Their ability to combine timely offense with dependable goaltending has made them a difficult matchup for opponents, and they continue to climb the standings as the season progresses.

As for the Chasin’ Turkeys, there were still positives to take away despite the result. The club generated plenty of offensive opportunities and remained competitive throughout the game. If they can continue creating chances at the rate they did Monday night, the results should begin to follow.

With the playoff race beginning to take shape, every point matters. BIG continues to collect them, while the Turkeys will look to regroup and bounce back in their next opportunity.
